Non-Canadians Studying Outside Canada
All non-Canadian students are required to comply with the regulations
governing the normal course
contract period for an individualized-study course. Extensions
beyond the normal course contract period are available to all individualized-study
students provided the Office of the Registrar receives the completed
Extension Request Form and fee before the contract date ends. Refer
to 6.15 Course
Extensions.
Overseas Students Start Dates
Students living overseas are assigned the earliest practical course
start dates, based on receipt of their couriered course package.
Course start dates for students living in countries other than Canada
and the US, may be one month later than the
regularly assigned individualized-study course start dates. This allows ample time
for the receipt of couriered course packages.
Shipping
To reduce risk of postal delays, Athabasca University's Course
Materials Production Department couriers course packages to non-Canadian
students. Students must provide their street address, (not a Post
Office box address), and telephone number in order to receive a
couriered parcel.
Communication
Athabasca University's toll-free telephone system applies
to Canada and US callers only. Students who live outside these countries
are responsible for assuming telephone costs when contacting their
tutor.
If you are registering in a course that has an oral quiz, please
contact the University to arrange for an alternative evaluation
procedure before you register.
Non-Canadian Evaluations/Assessments
Students who will be presenting international credentials for
possible transfer credit to an Athabasca University program must
obtain an evaluation of their international post-secondary course
work obtained outside of Canada or the US.
The International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) helps
non-Canadian students obtain recognition for the education they
received in other countries by assessing their international educational
documents and comparing them to educational credentials in a Canadian
province.
All students presenting international credentials for possible
transfer credit to Athabasca University programs must make application
to IQAS for a “Description of Post-Secondary Course Work.”
Those students who elect not to use the IQAS process forfeit the
possibility of any transfer credit for their international course
work towards an Athabasca University program.
Upon contacting the Office of the Registrar, students will be forwarded
an information and application package.
