Course extensions are available for individualized-study courses
only. Students who are unable to complete their course during their
course contract
period may apply for an extension. Each course may be extended
up to three times. Each extension is valid for a two-month period.
Note: Students receiving financial assistance do not adhere to the same
contract dates. Refer to Section 5.11.2. Financial
Assistance.
Students are required to complete and submit an Extension
Request Form and fee for each extension requested. A copy of the form is also included
in your learning resources package. Mail or fax your completed
form to the address below.
The completed form and fee must be received by Athabasca University,
Office of the Registrar, on or before your course contract ends.
Note: Effective September 1, 2005, all extension request forms must
be received by the Office of the Registrar a minimum of one month
before YOUR course contract ENDs. The extension starts on
the first day of the month following your course contract
end date. Students must complete all their course work during the original
course contract period or during the extended contract period when tutor
support is available.
Students who fail to complete their course, and who do not apply
for an extension by the required deadline, will receive a course
failure (“F”). If students wish to obtain credit for the course, they may reregister
and pay the appropriate fee. Both the original registration and the reregistration will
appear on the transcript.
Extensions are not available in grouped-study or e-Class® courses.
