Non-Canadian Students Studying in Canada
Non-Canadian students are those who do not hold Canadian citizenship
or are not permanent residents of Canada. In the case of a dispute
over an individual's status within Canada, Citizenship and
Immigration Canada regulations will apply. Refer to www.cic.gc.ca or Citizenship
and Immigration Canada, 888.242.2100,
for details.
Non-Canadian students who are living temporarily in Canada and
studying for a period of six months or less, may study with Athabasca
University as unclassified students only and for a six-month period
only. Non-Canadian students in the process of applying for their
study authorizations may be admitted to programs and register for
their first six months of course work. However, in order to continue
in their program of study within Canada, they will
be required to present a copy of their valid study authorizations.
In order for non-Canadian students who are living temporarily
in Canada to be officially enrolled in a program of study,
they must
possess
and present a copy of their valid study authorization confirming
permission to study in Canada.
Non-Canadian students who are living temporarily in Canada
and admitted without a valid study authorization will not
be permitted
to extend
contracts beyond a
six-month period unless they either leave Canada or they submit
a copy of their valid study authorization to Athabasca University.
Non-Canadian students who are living temporarily in Canada, admitted
without a valid study authorization, and who register in a six-credit
course, are expected to complete their contract within a six-month
period. Students in this type of contract will be permitted to continue
beyond the six-month period if they either leave Canada or they
submit a copy of their valid study authorization to Athabasca University.
