Letter of Reference

As of December 3, 2014, the Centre for Nursing and Health Studies will be moving our letters of reference submissions to a new online format. Embedded within our current Graduate Student Admission System (GSAS) application, students will now only need to provide the business email of each of their referees—our office will handle the rest of the reference submission process. Applicants will still be responsible for ensuring that all references are received prior to the application deadline by continuing to monitor our updates to their online GSAS application.

If you have already submitted your Hard-Copy Application package with paper-copy references, these will still be acceptable for this application period. However, if you have not yet begun the process, please follow the new online process. Questions regarding this change can be directed to

Each applicant to the Centre for Nursing and Health Studies Programs is required to provide three official letters of reference. At least one of the letters of reference should come from someone familiar with your academic skills. If an academic reference is not provided, you will be asked to explain within the application why you were unable to meet this requirement. All referees must be able to provide an objective assessment of your background and capabilities with respect to the prospective graduate program. Letters from friends, family members, clients, colleagues, people currently registered in a CNHS graduate program, or general reference letters (letters that are not written in support of the person's application to the particular graduate program) are not acceptable. For professional or work references, select individuals who are familiar with your work, preferably if they have supervised you in some way. The references must be completed within the application form by providing the email address of each referee. Paper copies will not be accepted. If you have previously applied to one of our programs, you will need to resubmit current letters of reference with each new application.
