6.18 Withdrawing from a Grouped Study Course

You may withdraw from a grouped study course before your course contract period expires. In order to meet specific academic record and refund criteria, however, you must adhere to specific timelines described in this section. You cannot withdraw from a grouped study course and be eligible for a refund once the final examination is deemed to have been written.

 

     
6.18.1 Academic Record (Grouped Study)

Students who withdraw from their grouped study course before the third scheduled class will not have the course appear on the official student record. These students will be eligible for a refund according to the criteria in Section 5.12.

Students who withdraw after the third scheduled class and before the scheduled mid-term examination date, or the mid-point of the course if there is no examination, will

a) be assigned a grade of “W” (withdrawal) and no credit will be awarded for the course
b) have the assigned grade of “W” appear on the official student record
c) not have the grade of “W” calculated into the GPA at Athabasca University
d) not be eligible for a refund.

Students who withdraw after the mid-term examination or mid-point of the course and before the course contract end date (provided the final examination has not been written), will

a) be assigned a grade of “WF” (withdrawal failure) and no credit will be awarded for the course
b) have the assigned grade of “WF” appear on the official student record
c) not have the grade of “WF” calculated into the GPA at Athabasca University
d) not be eligible for a refund

Students who submit a withdrawal request form after the course contract end date, will

a) be assigned an “F” (failure) and no credit will be awarded for the course
b) have the assigned grade of “F” appear on the official student record
c) be assigned a grade point of zero, which will be calculated into the GPA at Athabasca University
d) not be eligible for a refund

 

 
6.18.2 Procedure (Grouped Study)

All requests to withdraw from a grouped study course must be made by completing and submitting Grouped Study Course Withdrawal Request Form to the Office of the Registrar. Emailed requests will not be accepted.

The date you withdraw from your course will be the postmark on the envelope, the date the online submission is received, or, if the form is hand-delivered or faxed (780.657.6174), the University date stamp.
