6.17. Withdrawing from an Individualized Study Course

You may withdraw from an individualized study course at any time within the course contract period. In order to meet specific academic record and refund criteria, however, you must adhere to specific timelines described in this section. You cannot withdraw from a course and be eligible for a refund once the final examination is deemed to have been written.

Note: Withdrawal procedures do not apply to challenge for credit.

 
 
 
6.17.1 Academic Record

a) Within 30 days after your course start date: your record of registration will be deleted from your official record.

b) Between 30 day and 90 days after your course start date: your official record will indicate a “W” (Withdrawal) without credit and without academic penalty at Athabasca University.

c) More than 90 days after the course start date, and before the course contract end date: your official record will indicate a “WF” (Withdrawal/Failure), without academic penalty at Athabasca University.

d) If you fail to formally withdraw: you will be assigned a system failure, and your official record will indicate “F” (Failure), with academic penalty.

 

     
6.17.2 Procedure

All withdrawal requests must be submitted online or in writing to the Office of the Registrar and bear the student's signature. An emailed request will not be accepted.

To formally withdraw from your individualized study course, you must complete and submit a Course Withdrawal Request Form. This form is available in the Forms Package of your learning resources or through myAU. If you print the online form, you must submit it by mail, hand, or fax (780.657.6174) to the University. The date of withdrawal will be the postmark on the envelope, or, if the notice is hand-delivered or faxed, the University date stamp, or the date of the online submission.

6.17.3 Refunds and Returns

You are responsible for the cost of returning your learning resources to Athabasca University. For information on refunds, refer to Section 5.11.
