7.4 Invigilators

An individual authorized by Athabasca University to oversee the writing of an examination by an Athabasca University student is called an invigilator. Your invigilator must meet specific guidelines outlined below and be willing to invigilate your examination. Athabasca University reserves the right to reject proposed invigilators.

Require assistance?

· e-mail Examination Services, Office of the Registrar
· review the examination information Web site
· refer to Section 7.2 Requesting an Examination.

7.4.1 Invigilator Guidelines

Examinations should be written under the supervision of a professor, instructor, or an authorized invigilator. You may propose an alternative invigilator when you submit your request.

To eliminate conflict-of-interest problems, relatives, friends, neighbours, co-workers (including immediate supervisors), persons living at the same address as the student, or other Athabasca University students, cannot invigilate examinations without the permission of the Coordinator, Examination Services, Office of the Registrar.

If neither option is available, please e-mail Examination Services, Office of the Registrar. A staff member will help you determine a suitable location and an acceptable invigilator.

7.4.2 Invigilator Fees

Most invigilators request a fee to invigilate student examinations. You may also be required to pay the institution that is invigilating your examination. You are responsible for the expenses incurred for this service. Athabasca University does not charge a fee to invigilate examinations at any of its three Learning Centre locations in Athabasca, Edmonton, or Calgary, Alberta. Invigilation centers may also charge a fee if you cancel or reschedule your examination.
