7.2 Requesting an Examination

You do not require permission to write an examination; however, we recommend that you discuss your preparedness with your tutor or learning facilitator.

Unless you are writing your examination at one of our Learning Centres, all invigilated examinations for our individualized study courses are requested through Examination Services, Office of the Registrar, using online forms or forms found in your learning resources package. It will take approximately 15 business days to process your request and send your examination.

Before you request your examination from Examination Services, you must contact your invigilator to schedule a date and time to write your examination. You may also wish to discuss any applicable fees.

If you are writing your examination at one of Athabasca University's Learning Centres, please use the online Examination Request Forms (Edmonton or Calgary) or call the Learning Centre. All other requests may be made using the online Examination Request Form.

Grouped study or seminar course students write their examinations together at the same location; the date and time is selected by the instructor.

Athabasca University does not ship examinations between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.

Complete and submit your Examination Request Form using one of the following methods:

• Complete the form in your learning resources package and fax it to 780.675.6174

• Submit the form online through myAU

• Mail the completed form to:

7.2.1 Holiday Closures and Late Examinations

If your course contract end date is December 31, 2006 you will have until Monday, January 15, 2007 to write your examination because the University is closed the last week in December. However, your completed Examination Request Form must be submitted by Dec. 20, 2006: examinations are not shipped between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day. This is not an extension to your course contract. If you are writing your examination at one of our Learning Centres, please see "Writing at a Learning Centre" below.

All other course work, including assignments and quizzes, must be completed on or before the course contract end date of December 31, 2006, at which time tutor support will discontinue. Additional time for examination completion is not provided to students with course contract end dates other than December 31.

Writing at a Learning Centre

Please note that Athabasca University Learning Centres have specific dates and times for writing examinations.  If you are writing at a Learning Centre, please check the following Web sites before you request your examination. Athabasca University will mail your examination to your selected invigilator within North America.

If you are living overseas, you must complete and submit your Examination Request Form a minimum of 21 business days before your chosen write date.
