Admissions Policy/Course Registration

Anyone 16 years of age or older is eligible for admission to Athabasca University, regardless of previous educational experience, with or without a high school diploma.

Past academic performance may, however, restrict you from enrolling in specific undergraduate programs such as the Bachelor of Professional Arts, Bachelor of Nursing, or Bachelor of Commerce degree programs. Specific enrolment requirements are indicated on the program.

6.1.1 Returning Students

Returning Athabasca University students can register for courses through the “myAU portal.” MyAU is your personalized portal to the University where you may quickly access information that is relevant to you. Once you have “logged in” to myAU, you can view personal information such as your AU Library account, and your assignment marks, and course grades. You may also take care of administrative matters, such as booking examinations and applying for extensions. Athabasca University will also communicate directly with you through myAU. Check the Message Centre on your myAU home page for general information and for mail. If you are no longer an active student, you may still access the myAU page and follow the “reactivation” procedure.

6.1.2

New Students

First-time students (and students changing programs) must complete and submit an Undergraduate General Application Form before registering in courses.

Explore your course or program options using this Calendar. Try another unique way to to browse the AU student experience by using this Web site.

After being admitted to Athabasca University and enrolled as an “unclassified” or “program” student (Refer to Admission Classifications), you are now ready to register in a course (refer to Section 6.2).

Once enrolled in a program, you are responsible for selecting courses that meet the program regulations and requirements in effect on the date that you enrolled. If you require assistance in selecting courses, refer to Counselling and Advising Services.
