Grouped study and e-Class® courses appeal to those who enjoy
the discipline of a schedule and the support of other students and
an instructor
in a classroom setting.
Contract Period Grouped study and e-Class® courses follow a study schedule
and the timelines associated with a traditional university semester;
for
example, students who begin a course in September will finish it
in December.
Grouped study courses generally last 13 weeks (three credits)
or 26 weeks (six credits) and are delivered in classroom situations
at many collaborating institutions located across Canada (refer
to Section 9
Partners in Education.) The official start and end dates match
these time frames as closely as possible. Students in grouped study
courses are not eligible for course extensions.
A course instructor is assigned and students progress through the
course together, submitting assignments and writing exams at the
same time
and place. Contract Period: Funded Students
Canadian students who receive student loans (either provincial
or federal) for grouped study courses, complete their courses within
the timelines described in Contract Period above. Refer to Section 5.11.2.

e-Class® Courses
We're sorry. The e-Class® method of delivery is no longer available for new registrations. The following regulations will remain in effect for those students currently registered in an e-Class® course with Athabasca University.
e-Class® is a Web-based, grouped study classroom offered by
Athabasca University. e-Class® courses are taken for credit towards
a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Management and other programs
at Athabasca University. Students and instructors communicate through
discussion groups and e-mail and follow a schedule similar to regular
classroom delivery.
Technology enables learning teams across countries and
continents to study collaboratively, while synchronous
(real time) activities
encourage
students to communicate with their classmates. Student
participation and completion of assignments on time are
required.
Examinations for e-Class® courses must be scheduled and completed
by the student within a specified range of dates.
For more information about the business and administrative courses offered by the School of Business, please phone 888.449.8813.
Course Extensions
There are no provisions for time extensions in grouped study
or e-Class® courses.
Registering in a Course
Grouped study courses are offered at selected sites and
times. Grouped study students, both new and continuing,
usually register in person at the collaborating institution
or grouped study site. Learning resources are usually
distributed at the first class, during an orientation event,
or through the campus bookstore.
For registration information, please contact the Office of the
Registrar at the college offering the Athabasca University course.
