4.15. University Diploma in Arts
The University Diploma in Arts is designed for students who wish to obtain an intermediate credential that provides a grounding in the intellectual skills required of university studies. It is also a foundation for further studies in Humanities and Social Science.
Students who have completed a more senior-level credential (e.g., bachelor's degree) may not enrol in the University Diploma in Arts program.

Note: ENGL 155, ENGL 177, ENGL 187, and ENGL 255 will not satisfy
the Humanities area of study requirement in the University Diploma in Arts
program. These courses may count, however, as part of the total number of
credits required for the diploma. Refer to Conditional Enrolment below for The
Alberta Universities Writing Competence Test requirements.
Course Notes
The following courses can satisfy either the Social Science area of study or the
Science area of study requirements, but not both. Students wanting to use these
courses to satisfy the Science area of study requirements must call
Admissions and Evaluations Services and request the change.

Conditional Enrolment
Students will be granted conditional enrolment in the program until the
following requirements have been met:
- A pass on the Alberta Universities Writing Competence Test (for information
about this test, contact an Athabasca University learning centre).
- Exemption from the test is granted to students who satisfy one the
following criteria:
- hold credit in ENGL 255; or
- have a grade of 70 percent or better in an Athabasca University English course, or
- receive transfer credit for an English course in which a grade of "B" or better was achieved.
