13. Collaborations


13.1. Transfer Programs

Transfer programs have been negotiated between Athabasca University and other institutions. These programs specify courses that may be taken at Athabasca University for credit towards the program offered by the cooperating institution.

Contact the cooperating institution offering the program you are interested in.


13.2. Bachelor of Social Work, The University of Calgary

The four-year Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) is a key credential for the helping professions. In Alberta, the BSW is offered by The University of Calgary.

You may be interested in obtaining this degree but for a variety of reasons cannot undertake four years of full-time study at The University of Calgary. Through Athabasca University, you can take the first two years of the program via home study. For information and an application contact:

13.3. Accounting Transfer Arrangements

Athabasca University has established transfer arrangements with the three major professional accounting bodies in Alberta (professional designation in parentheses): the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Chartered Accountant, CA), the Society of Management Accountants (Certified Management Accountant, CMA), and the Certified General Accountants Association (Certified General Accountant, CGA).

For up-to-date equivalencies and course requirements of each program, contact the regional office of each professional body.


13.4. The Canadian Institute of Certified Administrative Managers

The Canadian Institute of Certified Administrative Managers (CICAM) is a professional association dedicated to recognizing and advancing the science of management and administration.

The review of applicants, the awarding of transfer credit and the awarding of the CAM designation are handled by the institute. For information and an application contact:

13.5. The Association of Administrative Assistants

The Association of Administrative Assistants is a chartered, Canadian, non-profit, professional organization founded in 1951 with a three-fold purpose: to establish a national standard of qualifications for administrative assistants and senior personnel; to reach this standard by providing advanced education; and to make management aware of the fully qualified administrative assistant's value.

Athabasca University has a variety of courses that fulfil the Qualified Administrative Assistants program requirements. For information and an application contact:

13.6. The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Canada

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Canada (ICSA) has an international designation and reputation for high standards of professionalism. Specifically geared to meet the needs of corporate secretaries, administrators, and managers, ICSA education provides the breadth and diversity of knowledge necessary for making judgemental decisions in the broad field of business management and administration. The Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) has a well-established accreditation program that leads to the professional designation of Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP). This program was developed for persons entering the materials management field, those involved in the field, and for persons in management functions who wish to acquaint themselves with materials management expertise.
