Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Legislative Drafting

Athabasca University's Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Legislative Drafting program provides individuals with the practical skills and theoretical understanding of rewriting complex legal, legislative language into plain language.

The program provides learners the option of enhancing their practical legal drafting skills without enrolling in a Canadian law degree program or having a Canadian law degree.

Legislative/legal drafters and legislative planners in a broad range of settings (e.g., Aboriginal band councils, paralegals, urban/rural municipality offices, governmental and non-governmental agencies involved in drafting policies and bylaws, and legislative/law clerk offices worldwide) can pursue their studies while continuing their employment.

In order to obtain the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Legislative Drafting, students must complete all five, three-credit individualized study courses. There is no requirement to attend campus. Students will work with their instructor in the Moodle Online Learning Management System and other electronic conferencing tools in the course of their studies. The educational methods used in this program provide learners access to training and education without the added expense of time and travel for in-residence training.

Information effective Sept. 1, 2011 to Aug. 31, 2012.
